CASE STUDIES OF JOBS PERFORMED IN THE ATLANTA, GA AREA

Atlanta, GA – It happened in a second floor apartment, in a peaceful residential complex. As with many cases of unattended death, neighbors first reported a putrid smell and asked the building owner to investigate. Once the coroner removed the tenant’s body, the property manager phoned On Call Bio to conduct a full-scale cleanup.

Two technicians immediately donned their bio suits and respirators, and set up a control zone, which in this case was determined to be the entire apartment due to the strong odor of decomp that was present throughout. The entryway was covered in a burp flap with plastic and carton seal tape, and biohazard sign was used to mark the area.

Directly outside the apartment, the technicians created a buffer zone with plastic and tampers to help prevent cross contamination with sanitary areas. Lastly, a clean zone was set up in the hallway. In this space, technicians stored clean equipment and chemicals to be used during the course of the cleanup.

Once the zones were set up, On Call Bio technicians got down to work to remove all visible contaminants from the master bedroom where the death occurred. All affected materials, including bedding, were placed in red bio bags for proper disposal. The mattress was also disassembled and discarded appropriately.

Finally, technicians cut out the affected carpet with carpet knives. With the bedroom prepped for a full cleaning, they turned their attention to the rest of the apartment and repeated the same process. As a final step, they gathered all the victim’s personal belongings into black bags to be sorted out by family members later. In decomp situations, On Call Bio recommends disposing of all porous items, such as clothing and books. These objects can hold onto odors and bacteria, and in many cases are impossible to fully sanitize.

The next morning, a full scale biowash took place. Starting in the master bedroom, technicians utilized biotic solvent, disinfectants, and odor removers to tackle the job. Each room was wiped down from ceiling to floor, to ensure that no trace of odor or bacteria remained behind. From start to finish, the primary goal was to make the apartment sanitary and livable again for another family. With hard work and attention to detail, the Atlanta On Call Bio crew made it happen.
